A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will continue its record investment in local schools, with inner-city families to get a world-class senior secondary campus for Collingwood College and Fitzroy High School.

Since being elected, the Andrews Labor Government has invested more than $3.8 billion to build 70 new schools and upgrade 1,300 more across the state, but we know there’s more to do.

Only Labor will make sure local families can rely on a great local school and that students have the modern facilities they need, with $84 million to build a senior secondary campus as part of the Fitzroy Gasworks Precinct.

The new campus will be a state-of-the-art vertical school that will increase the capacity of both schools, allowing at least 650 extra students.

Today’s announcement represents the latest chapter in Fitzroy High School’s proud story, having been the only school closed by the Kennett Liberal Government to reopen, until we re-opened Richmond High earlier this year.

The school was one of hundreds closed by the Liberals back in the 1990s, but the site was saved from being sold off to developers by a 14-month long sit-in by local families.

The school was finally re-opened in 2004 by the Bracks Labor Government, following the advocacy of parents and the Member for Richmond, Richard Wynne.

The Andrews Labor Government has already delivered planning funding in the Victorian Budget 2018/19 to design the new senior campus. This design work is now underway, with the exact size and composition of the second campus being finalised.

The project will create around 250 new jobs during construction, with the campus to open in 2022 under a re-elected Labor Government.

In stark contrast, the Liberals slashed $1 billion out of our education system, leaving Victorian schools to crumble and decay.

Only Labor will keep deliver for all Victorians, with more new schools and upgrades to existing schools across the state, including a senior secondary campus for Collingwood College and Fitzroy High School.
