New Seperated Bike Lanes for Wellington Street

On Friday I was proud to announce the completion of the Wellington Street Protected Bike lanes with City of Yarra Mayor, Danae Bosler.

The Victorian Government provided $1.54 million to extend the protected bicycle lanes in both directions on Wellington Street in Collingwood to improve safety by providing full separation from traffic.

By installing new safety features and improving existing infrastructure, we can prevent crashes from happening, or reduce their severity when they are unavoidable.

‘Copenhagen style’ bicycle lanes like these in Collingwood improve safety by providing full separation from traffic and significantly reduce the likelihood of collisions where cyclists are struck by stationary drivers opening the doors of their vehicle.

Infrastructure plays a vital role in keeping you safe on our roads. By installing new safety features and improving existing infrastructure, we can prevent crashes from happening, or reduce their severity when they are unavoidable.

It’s all part of our Towards Zero ActionPlan to make our roads safer and to bring our road fatalities down to where they belong – none at all.
