Richmond Asian Business Association

I was delighted to join the Richmond Asian Business Association (RABA), led by Mr Vinnie Lee and Mr Meca Ho, last Sunday at the old Fitzroy town hall for a fundraising dinner in support of the Victoria Street gateway arch project. This project was designed by the great national and international architect Greg Burgess, a resident of Richmond, who has designed a beautiful, welcoming gateway project, which is under early construction at the moment in Victoria Street.

The Gillard federal government provided $500 000 for the project and the Brumby government promised $1 million for it. I am delighted to say that that commitment was fulfilled by the incoming government, and the Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship confirmed funding for the project. A matching component of $100 000 was required from the traders.

I am delighted to say on the night 10 people stood up and committed $10 000 each to this project, ensuring that the $100 000 required was able to be committed to by the traders. I want to acknowledge Bruce Shaw, who made a very generous donation of $10 000 from the Rotary Club of Collingwood. It was a fantastic night, and congratulations to RABA.
